Ghana
Compassion International began working in Ghana in 2005. Over 21,300 children participate in around 107 child development centres. Compassion Australia assists over 1500 of these children. Our goal is to reach out to Ghanaian children; helping provide them the opportunity to rise above their circumstances and become all God has created them to be.
Your sponsored child lives in the hillside community of Assin Nsuta, home to approximately 2,800 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement floors, mud walls and tin or thatched roofs. The primary ethnic group is Akans and the most commonly spoken language is Twi.
The regional diet consists of maize, cassava and plantains. Common health problems in this area include malaria, typhoid and hypertension. Most adults in Assin Nsuta work as day laborers, subsistence farmers or market traders and earn the equivalent of $33 per month. This community needs employment opportunities and recreation centers.
Your sponsorship allows the staff of Nana Dr. Ohemeng-Aware V Child Development Center to provide your sponsored child with Bible teaching, health screening, malaria prevention education, field trips, tuition, educational materials, health education and handwork skills training. The center staff will also provide child care education for the parents or guardians of your sponsored child.
