The value of prayer
Prayer is powerful and effective: it reaches into the heart of issues that no natural force can touch. Prayer can impact the smallest child and the most powerful leader. Prayer has the power to stir people’s hearts, change lives and help end poverty, abuse and exploitation. When we pray, we are connecting with God and seeing his kingdom and His will done on earth as it is in heaven.
Praying for your sponsored child
One of the best ways to support your sponsored child is to pray for them regularly. God cares about His children, and it’s clear that poverty isn’t a condition that He created any child to live in.
You can pray for your child’s:
- Health and safety
- Relationships with others: their friends, family and God
- Growth and development in their school work
- Understanding of their worth and value in our world today
As you pray regularly for your sponsor child, remember that they are also praying for you!

Compassion Prayer Partners Network
Compassion’s Prayer Partners Network brings Christians together from all over Australia to uphold and strengthen our work through prayer.
As a Prayer Partner, we will provide you with monthly prayer updates on what is happening in the lives, communities and nations of Compassion assisted children around the world.
Prayer is integral to strengthening the ministry of Compassion worldwide and one of our most powerful tools against the injustice of poverty. As we learn from Moses, who prayed on behalf of his people, prayer can save a nation.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
— 1 John 5:14-15 ESV
