Creative Giving

There are many ways you can assist Compassion financially. As well as choosing to sponsor a child or a Leadership Development student, or donate money towards a complementary intervention project or the child survival program, there are other creative options to help Compassion release more and more children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Bequests

A bequest is a monetary gift you leave to Compassion in your Will. Bequests and gifts are vital to the work of Compassion as they help us plan for future strategic long-term projects including funding complementary intervention projects. Making a gift to Compassion in your Will is your opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the lives of children in poverty around the world.

Living Sponsorship – a gift that keeps giving

A Living Sponsorship is set up when a donor gives Compassion a lump sum to invest in its Living Sponsorship Fund. Compassion uses this lump sum to progressively fund the sponsorship of a child in your name while ever the funds remain. Even though the donation will be used over many years for the sponsorship of a child, by donating the lump sum to Compassion today, you can claim a tax deduction for the full donation amount immediately.

Each year in May, Compassion deducts from the Living Sponsorship Fund an amount equal to the cost of the child sponsorship for the year, plus a birthday and Christmas gift for the child. The balance remains in the Living Sponsorship Fund and is re-invested for another year. Interest earned on the balance is credited to your account.

If the child you are sponsoring with your Living Sponsorship leaves the program, Compassion instates another child in their place to receive the benefits.

With sponsorship amounts increasing over time and interest rates varying, it is difficult to state exactly how long your Living Sponsorship will last, but as a guide you can expect that:

  • A$4000 will last approximately 8 years
  • A$7500 will last approximately 16 1/2 years
  • A$12500 will last approximately 35 years
  • A$17500 will last indefinitely

Charitable Life Assurance – giving beyond your means

Charitable Life Assurance is arranged when you take out a life assurance policy over your own life and name Compassion (Compassion Australia ABN 67 001 692 566) as the beneficiary and ‘owner’ of the policy. You make a note in your Will for your Executor to notify Compassion following your death, and once a copy of your death certificate is received, Compassion accesses the proceeds of the policy and then applies the proceeds to our Endowment Operations Fund.

To participate in this arrangement, simply pay the Charitable Life Assurance premiums to Compassion which allows you to receive a tax deduction. Then, Compassion pays the premiums to the Life Assurance company on your behalf.

No-Interest Loans

You can provide Compassion Australia with a No-Interest Loan by lending your available funds to Compassion on a ‘no-interest’ basis. Compassion invests the funds, thus earning interest on the principal, and providing additional income for Compassion which is used to fund complementary intervention activities. Compassion will re-pay your loan on demand.
