How does the decision to close Compassion's program in India affect Mums and Babies?

Updated Thursday 16 March, 2017

On 15 March 2017, Compassion formally ended all program operations in India. This was an extremely difficult decision that affected more than 147,000 children and 589 local partners in India. More than 20,000 non-profit organisations in India also had their charitable registrations revoked.

Funds sent before the restrictions went into place were received and disbursed to India and used for their intended purposes. However, any funds received after the restrictions were in place were held while we tried to resolve matters. For the same reasons that local partners are no longer able to run the Child Sponsorship Program in India, they are no longer able to run Compassion Mums and Babies.
