What is Mums and Babies?

Updated Friday 11 September, 2015

Mums and Babies is the Critical Needs fund that supports Compassion's Child Survival Program. The Child Survival Program operates in the 26 countries where Compassion works and aims to reach the most vulnerable mothers and babies during the critical first few years of a child's life.

The Child Survival Program works with at-risk children under the age of three, as well as mothers, caregivers and expecting mothers, providing essential pre-natal and post-natal care, learning opportunities and spiritual nurturing. The program is delivered primarily through home-based activities and home visits, supplemented by church-based group activities, such as training mothers in skills like income generation and literacy.

Child Survival Program centres operate alongside Compassion child development centres and children often transition from our Child Survival Program to the Child Sponsorship Program once they reach three years of age.

By giving to Mums and Babies you will be helping to support the Child Survival Program and provide expectant mothers, caregivers and babies with:

  • Medical assistance
  • Nutritional support where necessary
  • Infant and child-survival training for caregivers
  • Vocational training, including literacy and numeracy activities
  • Income-generation activities for caregivers
  • An opportunity to hear the gospel
