Why was Compassion registered as a “charitable” NGO instead of a “religious” NGO?

When Compassion registered as a charitable organisation, the laws and guidelines were different—we registered as “charitable” in full alignment to the laws and guidelines at that time. (Since then, according to the article, the government also calculated that 96 per cent of Compassion’s activities qualify as charitable.)
