After 48 years of life-changing work, Compassion India closes its doors today, and all children will officially depart from the program. It’s a momentous and bittersweet day.
Together, we grieve for thousands of children, their families, and their sponsors, who are all affected by this. But it’s also important to reflect on the work we have done together—on the impact your support has made—and celebrate the children whose lives have been changed.
There’s no one better equipped to tell the story of Compassion in India than Jané Alam Sheikh, who was released from poverty and went on to sponsor a child himself. As Jané shares, because of sponsorship he went from living in a state of desperation, unsure of even his next meal, to studying a master’s degree in international business and becoming an advocate for children in his community and country.
His story is one example of the way God has used your support to change lives. His story is why we believe more strongly than ever that sponsoring a child has a powerful, practical effect.
Thank you to all who have prayed for, written to, encouraged and supported children in India in the past 48 years. And thank you for all you’ve done to speak up for the sake of children who live in poverty. Our work in India has closed after almost five decades, but the impact of your support will last forever.
