Every Insight Trip is a unique experience, from the people you’ll meet to the places you’ll go. Your trip’s itinerary is customised to meet the needs and interests of the final group of travellers, and you will get all the details with time to spare. In the meantime, check out the example itinerary below, based on previous Insight Trips to Kenya. We hope it gives you a taste of what your Insight Trip will be like!

  • Day 1: Arrive in Kenya
    Day 1: Arrive in Kenya

    Welcome to Kenya. Arrive at any time and make your way into the hustle and bustle of the capital, Nairobi. Get comfortable in your accommodation and take a moment to soak in the sights and scents of Kenya’s largest city. There are no activities planned until the evening where you’ll get a chance to meet your fellow travellers from Australia.

  • Day 2: Visit Compassion Kenya office
    Day 2: Visit Compassion Kenya office

    The best place to start your trip is at Compassion’s office in Kenya. Here, you’ll meet the local staff and get an overview of the ministry’s activities in the country. After a tour of the office, treat your taste buds to the local cuisine and begin journeying into regional areas of Nairobi.

  • Day 3-4: Child development centre in rural Nairobi
    Day 3-4: Child development centre in rural Nairobi

    Arrive at your first child development centre. Get ready to meet the bright and beautiful children in Compassion’s program. There’ll be plenty of laughter, dancing and playing but you’ll also understand more about Compassion’s approach to holistic child development. You’ll have an opportunity to meet the local church pastor and staff and be invited into some of the homes of precious children and their families.

  • Day 5: Safari at a national park
    Day 5: Safari at a national park

    Spend the day exploring the wonders of Kenya’s wildlife with a team trip to one of Kenya’s majestic national parks. It’s destined to thrill wildlife lovers and nature-enthusiasts so keep your eyes wide open—you might spot a flamingo, zebra or giraffe!

  • Day 6: Travel back to Nairobi
    Day 6: Travel back to Nairobi

    After a morning travelling back to the capital, enjoy an afternoon of leisure—peruse the local markets, take a walk around the village or use this opportunity to rest your feet at the hotel.

  • Day 7: A day with Compassion sponsored children
    Day 7: A day with Compassion sponsored children

    Another highlight of the trip is the opportunity to visit a tourist attraction with Compassion sponsored children. Share in their joy and laughter while you get to see more of Kenya. It’ll be a day to remember!

  • Day 8: Church service in Nairobi
    Day 8: Church service in Nairobi

    Attending a Sunday service in Kenya is a cultural and spiritual experience in itself. After the service, spend the afternoon resting before sharing a meal with some inspiring young adults who were formerly part of Compassion’s program.

  • Day 9: Rest day
    Day 9: Rest day

    Enjoy a moment of rest and relaxation. Spend the afternoon relaxing or support local artisans by purchasing a hand-made souvenir at a nearby market.

  • Day 10: Visit a Mums and Babies survival project
    Day 10: Visit a Mums and Babies survival project

    Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program touches every aspect of a child’s life from the womb to the workforce and often involves the prenatal and postnatal care of mothers and caregivers. Visit a Mums and Babies survival project and meet some of the mothers and caregivers supported by Compassion. You’ll hear about the struggles of parenting in poverty and be moved by their stories.

  • Day 11: Child development centre in urban Nairobi
    Day 11: Child development centre in urban Nairobi

    Experience a different landscape for a local church with a visit to a child development centre in urban Nairobi. Each community faces its own challenges and struggles, but you’ll be reminded of God’s transformative hope in Kenya. Meet the local church pastor and staff and have the opportunity to step inside a local home. Wrap up your visit with a teamwide debrief in the afternoon as you reflect and share in each other’s experiences.

  • Day 12: Depart Kenya
    Day 12: Depart Kenya

    It’s been a memorable trip but it doesn’t have to end here. You may choose to venture on another safari or observe a traditional Kenyan dance. Otherwise, bid Kenya adieu and make your way back to the airport to head home. You might be departing Kenya, but a part of Kenya will stay with you forever.

What's Not Included

  • Visa applications
  • Additional accommodation or travel costs (if you choose to extend your stay)
  • Vaccinations or immunisations (please seek relevant medical advice prior to leaving Australia)
  • Excess baggage fees
  • SIM cards, phone calls, laundry service or internet usage while travelling
  • Optional activities, additional snacks, mini-bar, shopping, gifts for your sponsored child or souvenirs

Important Information

  • Payment Process
    Payment Process

    You will be issued with two invoices to cover the total cost of this Insight Trip:

    1. Invoice one will be for the payments below. Each payment will be listed as a separate item on the invoice with its own due date.
      • Payment one: $300 per person, which is your deposit and must be paid by the due date on the invoice to secure your place on the Trip Insight.
      • Payment two: the bulk of the Insight Trip costs, due approximately six months before departure.
      • Payment three: the balance of your Insight Trip package, due approximately three months before departure (if you qualify for the early-bird discount, this balance will be reduced accordingly).
    2. Invoice two is for any additional costs related to visiting your sponsored child, and will be sent out one or two months before departure. If you do not incur any additional costs outside of the planned Insight Trip, you will not receive invoice two.
  • Traveller Agreement
    Traveller Agreement

    You will be provided with a Traveller Agreement, which includes all terms and conditions to be examined and confirmed prior to departure.

  • Cancellation Policy
    Cancellation Policy
    • Insight Trip deposits ($300 per person) are nonrefundable
    • Fifty percent of the Insight Trip cost will be required for cancellations less than three months before departure
    • One hundred percent of the Insight Trip cost will be required for cancellations less than one month before departure
    • Although rare, in the event that Compassion feels it is necessary to cancel a trip, a full refund will be given to all travellers
