You’re invited to experience God’s hope and love for Thailand, the ‘Land of a Thousand Smiles’ with an eye-opening Insight Trip. From precious children, their families to the local church, witness the front lines of Compassion’s ministry in a country that endeavours to embrace and acknowledge its minority ethnic groups.

  • Day 1: Arrive in Thailand
    Day 1: Arrive in Thailand

    Welcome to Thailand. Arrive at any time and make your way to the northern city, Chiang Mai. Enjoy the serenity of the mountainous city as you settle into your accommodation. There are no activities planned until the evening where you’ll meet your fellow travellers over dinner.

  • Day 2: Visit Compassion office in Thailand
    Day 2: Visit Compassion office in Thailand

    The best place to start your trip is at Compassion’s office in northern Thailand. Here, you’ll meet the local staff and get an overview of the ministry’s activities in the country. After a tour of the office, treat your taste buds to a local meal and begin journeying into rural Chiang Mai.

  • Day 3: Child development centre in rural Thailand
    Day 3: Child development centre in rural Thailand

    Arrive at your first child development centre. Here you’ll meet the bright and beautiful children in Compassion’s program. There’ll be plenty of laughter, dancing and playing but you’ll also understand more about Compassion’s approach to holistic child development. You’ll have an opportunity to meet the local church pastor and staff and be invited into some of the homes of precious children and their families.

  • Day 4: Mums and Babies survival project
    Day 4: Mums and Babies survival project

    Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program touches every aspect of a child’s life from the womb to the workforce and often involves the prenatal and postnatal care of mothers and caregivers. Visit a Mums and Babies survival project and meet some of the mothers and caregivers supported by Compassion. In the afternoon, return to your accommodation and enjoy a moment of rest.

  • Day 5: Church service at Compassion’s regional centre
    Day 5: Church service at Compassion’s regional centre

    Attend a Sunday service at Compassion’s regional centre and experience Thailand’s spiritual climate. After the service, return to central Chiang Mai to share a meal with some inspiring young adults who were formerly part of Compassion’s program.

  • Day 6: A day with Compassion sponsored children
    Day 6: A day with Compassion sponsored children

    Feel like a child again and share in the joy and laughter of Compassion sponsored children with a visit to the park together. It’ll be a day to remember!

  • Day 7: Child development centre in Chiang Mai
    Day 7: Child development centre in Chiang Mai

    Back in the city, visit another child development centre to witness the way of life in urban Chiang Mai. Visit the home of a child and their family in the community and hear about the experiences of our local church pastor and staff. In the afternoon, travel to tourist attractions and cultural sites in Chiang Mai.

  • Day 8: Child development centre in Chiang Mai
    Day 8: Child development centre in Chiang Mai

    Return to the child development centre in Chiang Mai and greet familiar faces. See how the child development centre operates and hear about the first-hand experiences of our local church partner. In the afternoon, wrap up your trip with a teamwide debrief to reflect and share in each other’s experiences.

  • Day 9: Depart Thailand
    Day 9: Depart Thailand

    The Insight Trip has come to an end, but you can always extend your adventure at your own expense. Choose to visit Chiang Mai’s elephant sanctuaries, get an authentic Thai massage or peruse the local markets. Otherwise, make your way back to the airport and start your journey home. You might be leaving Thailand but the people and stories you’ve encountered will stay with you forever.

  • International flights (travellers are welcome to book their preferred flights with a local travel agent. If you require any travel advice, we are happy to assist through our designated travel partner)
  • Visa applications
  • Additional accommodation or travel costs (if you choose to extend your stay)
  • Vaccinations or immunisations (please seek relevant medical advice prior to leaving Australia)
  • Excess baggage fees
  • SIM cards, phone calls, laundry service or internet usage while travelling
  • Optional activities, additional snacks, mini-bar, shopping, gifts for your sponsored child or souvenirs

Important Information

  • Payment Process
    Payment Process

    You will be issued with two invoices to cover the total cost of this Insight Trip:

    1. Invoice one will be for the payments below. Each payment will be listed as a separate item on the invoice with its own due date.
      • Payment one: $300 per person, which is your deposit and must be paid by the due date on the invoice to secure your place on the Trip Insight.
      • Payment two: the bulk of the Insight Trip costs, due approximately six months before departure.
      • Payment three: the balance of your Insight Trip package, due approximately three months before departure (if you qualify for the early-bird discount, this balance will be reduced accordingly).
    2. Invoice two is for any additional costs related to visiting your sponsored child, and will be sent out one or two months before departure. If you do not incur any additional costs outside of the planned Insight Trip, you will not receive invoice two.
  • Traveller Agreement
    Traveller Agreement

    You will be provided with a Traveller Agreement, which includes all terms and conditions to be examined and confirmed prior to departure.

    Key aspects of this Insight Trip information include:

    • Health and Safety (including immunisations and pre-existing medical conditions)

    • Acknowledgement and Release
  • Cancellation Policy
    Cancellation Policy
    • Insight Trip deposits ($300 per person) are nonrefundable
    • Fifty percent of the Insight Trip cost will be required for cancellations less than three months before departure
    • One hundred percent of the Insight Trip cost will be required for cancellations less than one month before departure
    • Although rare, in the event that Compassion feels it is necessary to cancel a trip, a full refund will be given to all travellers
