Holistic child development
Alleviating poverty is so much more than the quick solution of providing a child with food and clothing; it’s a long term relationship and commitment to investing into the life of child who might otherwise believe things will never be better. That’s why Compassion takes a holistic approach to child development.
The goal of holistic child development is to take each child on a journey of individual development in all five types of poverty: spiritual, economic, social, physical and emotional.
Our holistic child development model addresses these forms of poverty through our programs:
- Child Survival Program: To help prevent premature death, secure good health and enable positive early childhood development, the Child Survival Program assists pregnant woman and at-risk babies from conception to age three.
- Child Sponsorship Program: Through a one-to-one relationship with a child sponsorand in partnership with a local church, a child is developed, discipled and equipped for life through the Child Sponsorship Program.
- Leadership Development Program: Selected child sponsorship graduates attend university and receive Christian leadership training and mentoring through the Leadership Development Program, empowering them to bring change to their communities and nations.
- Critical Interventions: Because every obstacle that can hinder the healthy development of a child cannot be predicted in advance, Critical Interventions provides solutions to needs that exceed the reach of Compassion’s other programs.
True transformational impact must tackle the spiritual, physical, social, emotional and economic barriers of poverty, which is why we encourage our supporters to not only support your sponsored children with their financial contributions, but also by writing letters and praying for your child and their family.
Your love, encouragement and prayers are the most powerful tools in changing the life of a child.
