Three Events That Changed My Life Forever

Michelle Tolentino was born and raised in a Manila slum, surrounded by drug trafficking and prostitution. At the age of six, she became a Compassion sponsored child and learned that God loved her. Before her upcoming visit to Australia, Michelle shares three important moments of transformation in her life.

Three Events That Changed My Life Forever
  1. When I was growing up, neither of my parents had a stable job and they struggled to provide for me and my two brothers. I had a difficult time believing the goodness of God due to our impoverished situation and my broken relationship with my absentee father, who struggled with drug addiction for many years. I became a Compassion sponsored child at the age of six. I was able to go to school and finish with a degree in Communication Arts at the University of Santo Tomas. My Compassion sponsors prayed for me, believed in me and invested in me. They treated me like their own daughter and spoke words of encouragement and hope in my heart through years of corresponding with them.

  2. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour in one of the youth camps sponsored by our Compassion centre. I came to understand the power of prayer and believed in the truth of God’s word. I am thankful for the opportunity to be selected as a sponsored child because the seed of the Gospel was planted in my heart.

  3. In 2011, I co-founded Made In Hope, a non-profit organisation which provides educational and work opportunities to women who have been exploited in modern day slavery (prostitution and human trafficking). I hope to become a better servant and advocate for exploited women and children, particularly those who are victims of human trafficking and prostitution.
