What gifts can I take when I visit my sponsored child?
Showing you care by visiting is one of the best gifts you can give your sponsored child, so there is no need to shower them or their family with expensive gifts. However, a small gift can help express your appreciation for being invited into your sponsored child’s home, show them more about your culture or country, and provide an activity or talking point during your visit.
You may like to take a backpack with some school supplies or books, a soccer ball, dolls, items of clothing like a t-shirt, jersey or dress, or small Australian items like toy koalas. Try to take your sponsored child’s personality and interests into account. For example, if he/she has said they like art, a book of paintings or a small painting kit may be appreciated.
You’re welcome to bring a small gift of appreciation for your sponsored child’s parents, or something that can be easily shared with their brothers and sisters. As part of a planned visit, the local centre staff will usually arrange for a gift of a grocery basket for your sponsored child’s family.
