At Compassion, children are at the very heart of everything we do. Not just in our programs but in our purpose, our partnerships and even our identity.
We believe childhood is full of wonder, beauty and imagination. And when children are given the space to create freely, something extraordinary happens. They show us the world not as it is but as it could be.
So when it came time to refresh the way we visually represent Compassion, we didn’t want to just reflect childhood. We wanted to create with children.
The world through a child’s eyes
We invited children in Compassion programs around the world to draw their lives, hopes and neighbourhoods. The result? Over 5,000 drawings, each one alive with colour, creativity and story.
These weren’t just sketches. They were expressions of childhood. Joyful, bold, playful. Sometimes messy. Always meaningful.
With love and care, our designers began to translate these artworks into a new global illustration library—one shaped by children, for children and with children.
Illustrations shaped by the children we serve
What emerged was more than a design system—it was a celebration of childhood itself. Each illustration is rooted in the real-life creativity of children in Compassion’s global neighbourhood. Together, they form a vibrant tapestry of joy, resilience and possibility.
And as our brand continues to grow and evolve, this illustration library will grow too, reflecting the diversity, culture and dreams of children across 40 countries.
This initiative isn’t just creative, it’s deeply intentional.
By incorporating children’s artwork into the way we communicate, we’re:
- Celebrating agency: Children are more than recipients of care, they are active contributors to our shared story.
- Embracing authenticity: These drawings aren’t stylised interpretations—they’re real, personal expressions from real children.
- Honouring diversity: Each drawing represents the rich cultural beauty and uniqueness of our global neighbourhood.

Moving with the creativity of children
The way children see the world is full of wonder. Their drawings teach us to notice beauty, to imagine boldly and to hold onto hope.
And that’s what this design approach is really about: moving with compassion means moving with childlike faith and creativity.
It means listening to children and learning from them.
