How does Compassion choose church partners?
Compassion is a Christian organisation that partners exclusively with Christian churches to implement a Christian holistic child development program. Every child development centre is an outreach of one of the local churches that we partner with in our field countries. The selection of which local churches we partner with in developing countries is undertaken prayerfully and with a mindset of long-term commitment to each other. Some of the principles that our teams weigh up in the church partnership decision-making process are:
Alignment of the local church’s doctrine with Compassion’s Statement of Faith
The local church’s ability and willingness to reach and serve the children in most need
Evidence that the church understands the unique needs of children and youth in their community
The church’s commitment to Compassion International's Child Protection Policies
Here in Australia, we currently partner with over 1,000 different Australian church partners from a variety of denominations across the country who help to advocate for and support Compassion’s mission. Compassion Australia is an independent, non-denominational organisation and is not exclusively affiliated to any one church. We prayerfully and intentionally seek partnerships with local Protestant evangelical churches that are in alignment with our Statement of Faith. At the heart of Compassion’s ministry, both here in Australia and around the world, is the commitment to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
