Children growing up in Cambodia are still facing the devastating effects of the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. Many infrastructure, health and education systems were lost during this time. Children under 5 are the most vulnerable, suffering from illness and malnutrition. Most youth do not finish school, continuing generational cycles of poverty.

Poverty in Cambodia

22%
of children under 5 have stunted growth
2.4%
of children do not reach their fifth birthday
Three-quarters
of youth do not complete secondary school

Yet God's Church is on the move in Cambodia. Local churches are small but mighty, leading a unified transformation across the country. By equipping youth with education and mentoring, the Church is rising with young leaders ready to change the next generation. Children who are born into poverty will not stay there.

Impact in action

Pastor Houn

Change is happening across Cambodia. Compassion is establishing partnerships with local churches who are already passionately serving their neighbourhoods—and now their impact is multiplying. At Pastor Houn’s church, her small Bible study group has grown to over 100 people gathering each week to receive physical and spiritual nourishment.

“I wanted so much to do more for the children and their families, but I didn’t have the resources and manpower. It was only after we partnered with Compassion that we were able to grow and reach more children. We’re reaching more vulnerable children and communities than ever before, and our church is overflowing with people who want to experience God’s love.”
